History

The company was established in 1952, designing and developing equipment for the agricultural industry in South Africa. Many proven designs developed by Bird Machines are still in use in the agricultural sector today.

The first mining machines, developed in 1988, were designed for the application of lime stone dust to the roof, walls and floors of underground collieries and have since become an industry standard. The company shifted its focus to mining machinery and has since concentrated its efforts in that industry.
