Company Information
History
The company was established in 1952, designing and developing equipment for the agricultural industry in South Africa. Many proven designs developed by Bird Machines are still in use in the agricultural sector today.
The first mining machines, developed in 1988, were designed for the application of lime stone dust to the roof, walls and floors of underground collieries and have since become an industry standard. The company shifted its focus to mining machinery and has since concentrated its efforts in that industry
Black Empowerment
Temeng Engineering and Fabrication (Pty) Ltd (a 100% Black owned business) owns a 30.3% share in Bird Machines. Mr Maruthu Mokalapa and Mr Noko Chelopo from Temeng joined the Bird Machines board as Director and Alternate Director.
Customer Support
The provision of post sales customer service and support is considered a vital part of developing and maintaining a long-term relationship with customers. In South Africa, apart from the manufacturing centre at Nelspruit, Sales Service and Spare Parts branches have been established at Bethal (coal mines) and Burgersfort (platinum mines).
This commitment is extended internationally through the appointment of suitably qualified sales and support agents, ably supported by a skilled technical team in South Africa.
